About Us
Yoga Instructor, Mother, and Seeker of Self-Discovery Namaste, my name is Jem. I am a yoga instructor, mother, and a lover of animals, nature, travel, and self-discovery. Born in Central London, I later moved to Surrey to start a family with my boyfriend, where we welcomed the most amazing twin boys. Although filled with love and wonderful memories, being a mother to twin boys was mentally, physically, and emotionally challenging. Endless feeding, night waking, and looking after little ones took a toll on me, leading to a diagnosis of chronic fatigue. Any exercise would leave me exhausted and unable to function properly for days, even weeks. I have two beautiful dogs who love to hop onto my mat during practice. I feel most alive when I’m in nature with my family and dogs, like our recent trips to Snowdonia and the Lake District. These moments fill my heart with joy and a sense of peace. I have travelled the world twice, visiting many beautiful spiritual places and monuments, such as the Taj Mahal and Varanasi in India, the temples in Thailand, and other locations in South East Asia, Australasia, and South America. Standing at the foot of a mountain, like Annapurna Base Camp in Nepal, or a glacier such as Franz Josef in New Zealand, or hiking through a national park like Milford Sound, makes me feel truly alive.
Journey with Om Asana Before embarking on my travels, I obtained a degree in Fashion Design and Technology at the London College of Fashion and went on to work at Ted Baker as a Design Assistant. However, after having my twin boys, I started my own children’s clothing brand. While this venture was initially fulfilling, I soon found myself feeling isolated, spending long hours behind a computer. The admin work far outweighed the creative aspects, and I realised I needed a change of direction. I started yoga classes at my local gym and vividly remember practising hip-opening exercises. When I came down for relaxation, I burst into tears, realising my body didn’t need intense workouts that left me feeling depleted. I needed yoga. I needed to hold space for myself, release suppressed emotions, and find balance within.
Gratitude for Saraswati Many years after discovering yoga, my profound love for the practice led me to Saraswati’s yoga studio. Realising that my passion for yoga alone wasn’t enough, I sought to learn from a teacher with a beautiful and compassionate approach, so I could help others experience the profound benefits of yoga. I had the privilege of completing a two-year comprehensive teacher training course in Hatha yoga with Saraswati. Under her mentorship, I also explored yoga nidra, meditation, and pranayama, all of which have been central to my growth as a teacher. Saraswati’s teaching and encouragement were instrumental in helping me regain my confidence during a challenging period. Having the tools of yoga has helped me navigate and process grief, especially during the most traumatic time of my life—the loss of my younger brother. Om Asana This journey inspired me to start my own yoga community, Om Asana. “Om” symbolises universal energy, and “Asana” means posture, reflecting the holistic nature of our practice. Om Asana offers Hatha Yoga and Yoga Nidra, which have been transformative practices in my journey. Yoga invites us to rediscover our true nature and see the world as a harmonious place that supports us. Yoga Nidra, known as “yogic sleep,” has been especially impactful, relieving stress, reducing anxiety, and promoting emotional healing. It has brought balance to my nervous system and a profound sense of peace and purpose.
Personal Transformation Alongside my yoga training, I participated in The Landmark Forum and its Advanced course, gaining profound insights into my blind spots and limitations. This awareness complemented my yoga training, empowering me to complete my certification and align my actions with my vision. The Landmark Forum also helped me find my voice and push my boundaries around public speaking, a valuable skill in my yoga teaching. I am proud to be a graduate of Landmark Education.
Commitment to Yoga Heritage I am honoured to be part of the Saraswati yoga community and am committed to carrying forward her wisdom. Under her mentorship and at Om Asana, I continue to learn, practise, and grow. I am excited to explore sound healing to enhance my offerings. This ongoing journey allows me to impart valuable knowledge and experience to my students, helping them find their own paths to wellness and growth.
Future Aspirations As a dedicated yoga instructor, my goal is to create a nurturing space where students feel supported in their journey towards wellness and self-discovery. I hope to expand my practice to include more holistic healing techniques, helping my students achieve a balanced and fulfilling life. Hatha Yoga and Yoga Nidra at Om Asana are accessible to all, offering relaxation and healing on multiple levels. Thank you for finding me; I look forward to sharing this journey with you.
